Under general supervision, supervises, schedules, and evaluates work performed by parks maintenance staff that prepares, maintains, inspects, and repairs parks and athletic facilities and equipment. Responsibilities include park maintenance and care, athletic field maintenance, facilities maintenance, field preparation, mowing, irrigation maintenance, and parks equipment repairs.
Necessary knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Principles and practices of technical and functional supervision and training.
- Safety practices, accident prevention techniques and occupational hazards.
- Safe operation of power tools and equipment commonly used in the performance of park and open space maintenance and construction, and maintenance and repair of small equipment and power and manual tools.
- Principles and practices of horticulture, landscaping; and irrigation systems, controllers, and components.
- Park maintenance work procedures and practices; materials and methods used in the design, construction, installation, maintenance and repair of parks grounds and structures.
- Plumbing, painting, carpentry, electrical, welding, and structural methods, and practices used in park facilities.
- Developing recommendations for improvements of parks and recreation facilities.
Education, Experience, Certificates, and Licenses Required
High School Diploma or equivalent, one (1) year experience in landscaping, irrigation, or turf/athletic field maintenance, and one (1) year of supervisory experience.
Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
A Valid Class C Texas driver license and the ability to maintain a satisfactory driving record. Recognized Certificates or licenses in Playground Inspections, Pesticide Application, Irrigation, or Class A or B Texas driver license are preferred.
